Group description
Our group (INMIVET) belongs to the Animal Health Department of the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM), which has a long tradition of training young scientists. Our research combines basic aspects of Animal Health with frontier studies in Genetics, Molecular Biology and Cell Biology, a combination widely recognised as appropriate for the training of young veterinary scientists. Animal Health work is technically simple but intellectually demanding, while Molecular and Cellular Biology (including vaccine development) requires an appropriate combination of intellectual rigour, technical precision and manual skills. PhD students trained in these disciplines can gain rigorous and versatile experience that enables them to deal with a wide variety of biological problems. Working in our laboratory also involves the use of various animal models (mouse, dog, and hamster) and cell cultures for the study of host-parasite interactions.

The fact that this project involves collaboration between various research groups will allow the exchange of new information and experience between researchers from different scientific communities and with international collaboration. Moreover, once a year, INMIVET participates in out-research events such as the Science Week with workshops in which training researchers participate as teachers showing their finding to the society.

Research topic
The general purpose of the propose project is to design and evaluated several approaches on the cutting edge of the leishmaniosis field for pathogenesis, virulence, vaccination or immunotherapy in order to overcome deficits of the traditional antigen-based or inactivated methods as well as toxic treatments.

We propose the fulfilment of a series of clearly defined scientist aims:
