Group description
It is a consolidated group created in 2004 that assembles senior and junior researchers (research scholars and PhD students).

The central axis of our research work revolves around the History of Communication, focusing on audiovisual media (films and television) and the History of Entertainment in Spain. This work has been supported by several research grants awarded by the Spanish Ministry of Economy, Industry and Competitiveness. It also holds the Jean Monnet Chair The European Audiovisual Heritage in times of Transformation: Access and Dissemination (621102-EPP-1-2020-1-ES-EPPJMO-CHAIR.)



Since 2011 HECOEN develops television studies. Under several research grants it has researched the history of Spanish Television programs and programming since the birth of TVE (1956) until the current days

A recently undertaken research line addresses the analysis of Hate Speech, its depiction on Legacy Media and Digital Media (including videogames) as well as its circulation on Social Media.

HECOEN also develops other secondary lines of work. One of them (directed by Loreto Corredoira) analyses European policies and Law on Audiovisuals, Information Access and Copyright. Other streams of research address

Research topic
Television studies, study of programmes and programming of public or commercial networks from 1990 to the present in any European country. The aim is to establish comparisons and synergies with the Spanish case, from the perspective of cultural studies or television studies.

The candidate will be involved in the current research interests of the group: TV studies, audiovisual heritage and European policies and Law on Audiovisuals, Information Access and Copyright. And . He/she can tackle any genre (news, fiction series, talk shows, reality shows, etc.), as well as cross-cutting issues: hearings, legal regulations, identities, representation of diversity, ethnicities, etc. An intermediate level of Spanish and English is required.
