Group description
The Group is formed by two Full Professors, an Associate Professor, one Postdoc and two Ph.D. students. We participate in research projects funded by the E.U., National Programs and private companies. The research is focused in the field of Colloids, with special emphasis on the structure and dynamics of micro- and nanoparticles, as well as of polymers and surfactants, at interfaces. A second Frsearch line is related to the behavior of mixtures of polymers and surfactants, both from the academic and the technological applications point of view, specially in hair and skin cosmetics. Finally, we perform an intense work on encapsulation and controlled delivery of drugs, insecticides, and nutraceuticals. The group maintains a strong cooperation with research groups of Europe, Japan and U.S.A.

Research topic
One of the main problem of the colloid science is to correlate the dynamic and rheological properties of the fluid interfaces with the stability and properties of materials such as foams, emulsions and controlled drug-delivery systems. Also processes such as froth flotation and tertiary-oil-recovery are strongly dependent on the above properties. The combination of confocal microscopy, optical tweezers, electronic microscopy, tensiometry, rheology and computer calculations should allow one to disentangle some of the existing problems. The results of this problem would have academic and technological benefits, and has an interdisciplinary character. This project will be performed in collaboration with research groups of Genova (Italy), Mainz (Germany), and Loughborough (U.K.).
