Group description
The Electroanalysis and Electrochemical (Bio)sensors research Group is a consolidated Group of the Complutense University of Madrid, constituted in 1988, whose research covers all branches of Analytical Electrochemistry, with special emphasis on the design and development of electrochemical (bio)sensing platforms to address relevant analytical problems. These (bio)sensors have mainly found application in the agriculture and food fields, in the detection of pathogen microorganisms and allergens and, during the last years, also in the clinical field.
The research group consists of three Full Professors, 4 Associate Professors, 2 Assistant Professors and several pre- and post-doctoral researchers. The scientific production of this research group is summarized in more than 400 research papers, 8 patents and over 4,500 communications to Congresses.
At the national level, this Group gets funding from national projects and private contracts with several companies.
At the international level, this research group has hosted a Global Action EC H2020-MSCA-IF and participates regularly in calls for European project grants. In fact, this group has been a participant in a project now coming to an end awarded in the Call: H2020-ECSEL-2017-2-RIA-two-stage ECSEL Joint Undertaking and is always open to fruitful collaborations with other prestigious national and international scientific researchers and with numerous outstanding partners (from research centers, hospitals and industry).

Research topic
This Group’s research activity focuses on the implementation of advanced electrochemical platforms for single or multiple determinations at the same or different omic layer based on the use of novel nanomaterials, surfaces chemistries, biosensing approaches and amplification strategies for ultrasensitive and selective and detection of relevant analytes (transcriptomic, epigenetics and proteomic biomarkers) in complex samples (food extracts, tissues, saliva, blood, exosomes, cells, etc.). This multidisciplinary research is oriented towards developing new analytical tools in different fields, which should provide the fellow with valuable knowledge for the development of new bio-electroanalytical methodologies of great interest in food safety and in the improvement of clinical diagnosis and prognosis. In fact, the multidisciplinary education and training in different areas derived from the research carried out in this research group, together with the framework of its unique collaborations with other researchers and industrial partners, will give the fellow unique training and the optimal preparation for a future professional career in the EU knowledge sectors, whether private or public. It should also be noted that the fellow will have the possibility of giving part of the practical teaching assigned to the department to which the applicant group belongs, which will also allow him/her to develop skills as a university teacher.
