The Plant Biotechnology group is located in the Genetics Unit, and within this group is working the Forest Genetics research team led by FJ Gallego.
The Forest Genetics team is currently focused on investigating the response to climate change of different species of Abies, Pinus and Cedrus Genus. Multidisciplinary studies are being carried out in which this response is analyzed by different approaches. We carry out studies based on genomics and molecular biology. Then, we collaborate with other research groups that analyse these phenomena from aspects such as ecology, physiology, dendrochronology or climatology.
The Department of Genetics, Physiology and Microbiology and the applicant himself have experience in this type of training.
The Genetics Unit, and the applicant, have the appropriate means and resources to carry out the proposed activity plan. The laboratories and computer rooms where the activities will take place are located in the Faculty of Biology.
In these spaces, all the necessary resources are available to carry out the proposed activities (laboratory equipment, computer programs, online access to databases, etc ...).

Research topic
We are studying tree responses to climate change in three interconnected research lines. Consequently, these are the projects proposed:
1. Structural genomics: massive sequencing for the characterization and conservation of forest genetic resources. GWAS studies for the identification of selection signatures in response to climate change.
2. Transcriptomics: RNA-seq to study the response to drought in tolerant and sensitive individuals of these forest species.
3. Epigenomic analysis: analysis by WGBS (Whole Genome Bisulfite Sequencing) of the genome of these species. The genomes of healthy trees are being analyzed versus individuals subjected to decay.
