Group description
The research group “Membranes and Renewable Energy” is affiliated to the Campus Moncloa of International Excellence. Its main research fields are:
- Design, fabrication, modification and characterization of different types of membranes (dense, porous, flat-sheet, hollow fiber or nano-fibrous membranes)
- Design and fabrication of membrane modules for different separation processes (plate and frame, spiral wound, tubular, capillary and hollow fiber membrane modules).
- Membrane Processes (reverse osmosis, forward osmosis, nanofiltration, ultrafiltration, microfiltration, membrane distillation, pervaporation, etc.) for different applications (desalination, wastewater treatment, concentration of different solutes, gas and liquid separations, etc.).
- Design of nano-composites, nano-fibers, micro-spheres, etc. for biomedical applications.
- Renewable energies (thermal collectors and photovoltaic panels technology)
- Solar irradiance measurements, energy storage, energy efficiency and fuel cells.
- Study of transport phenomena, theoretical models and optimization of different processes.
- Statistical experimental designs using response Surface Methodology (RSM) and artificial neuronal network (ANN) for optimization of different types of plants.
- Study of thermal properties (thermal conductivity and thermal diffusivity measurements by the transient hot-wire method) of nano-fluids, nano-composites and phase change materials (PCMs).
