Step-by-step for ERC

A practical guide to apply for a European Research Council Grant (Calls 2017) at Universidad Complutense de Madrid.

Step 0: Make sure that you are eligible for ERC Grants

Who? Reseacher

How? You can find a useful summary of the eligibility criteria in this document (see page 15). According to the eligibility criteria and the researcher profile select the funding scheme you will apply to. Step 1: Notify your intention to apply for an ERC Grant

Who?  Reseacher

Step 2: Create an account in ECAS

Who? Researcher

How? In order to be able to access the application for the preparation and submission of the project proposal you must create an account in EU-LOGIN. For this purpose follow the directions in this link.

Step 3: Register your proposal in the Participant Portal Submission Service

Who? Researcher

How? Log into the participant portal using your EU-LOGIN account credentials.  Then, follow this link and click on the button "START SUBMISSION" corresponding to the type of action you intend to apply for (see Step 0). Then procceed to the proposal registration. Get detailed directions following this link.

In order to register your proposal you will need the following information:

  • Beneficiary: Universidad Complutense de Madrid
  • Participant Identification Code: 999874546
  • In the field "Your role", select "Researcher".
  • Beneficiary contacts: it is mandatory to create a contact for the "Main Host Institution Contact" with "Coordinator contact (full access)" privileges. In this regard, you have to use the following contact data:
    • Name: Ignacio
    • Last name: Gómez Cuesta

Step 4: Fill in the proposal administrative forms

Who? Researcher / OEID

How? The administrative forms must be filled in using the template available in the Participant Portal Submission Service. The administrative forms must be filled in online. Check the configuration of you internet browser (indications are provided in the application). Please note that some data fields in the administrative forms are pre-filled based on the previous steps in the submission wizard (like the abstract). However you should check that all of them are updated before the proposal submission. OEID will complete some information related to Declarations section (send an e-Mail to Esta dirección de correo electrónico está protegida contra spambots. Step 5: Write the technical part of the proposal

Who? Researcher / OEID

How? Write the part B of the proposal (description of your project) according to the proposal templates provided in the Participant Portal Submission Service.

Read carefully the "Information for Applicants to the Starting and Consolidator Grant"  that you can download here. There you will get a feeling of what this call is about and how you will need to approach the proposal writting to get funded. 

For this purpose it is also very useful to read the proposal templates carefully and try to understand what is expected in each section.

In the section C of the Part B2, you need to fill in the table corresponding to your project's budget. You must take into account the UCM institutional framework. Step 6: Get the "Letter of Commitment of the Host Institution"

Who? Researcher / OEID

How?  The OEID will take care of preparing this letter. However, before starting to prepare it:

  • Your project budget must have been reviewed and accepted by the OEID. If we still have not reviewed it, please contact us via Esta dirección de correo electrónico está protegida contra spambots. Usted necesita tener Javascript activado para poder verla..
  • If you are not employed at UCM at the time of preparing and submitting your proposal, you will need to provide evidence that you have made the necessary arrangements with a department at our university to have the physical space and resources needed to carry out your project. For this purpose an agreement of the department board ("Consejo de Departamento") will be enough.

In order to prepare the Letter we will need you to provide us with some details:

  • your full name;
  • the definitive acronym and title of your proposal.

We will send you an email with a scanned copy of the signed original of the Letter as soon as we get this signed by our legal representative.
